Dr Phyllis Cohen on Mothers, Infants and Young Children of September 11, 2001: A Primary Prevention Project

In this second webinar, Dr Phyllis Cohen will describe how a group of psychoanalysts and therapists responded to a catastrophic event of unexpected trauma and grief, creating a program of prevention and intervention with women who lost their husbands while pregnant and their young children who lost a father. Utilizing a multi-therapist team-approach, Dr Cohen and her team designed a program incorporating group interventions for mothers and children, peer support group and supervision for therapists, and video feedback consultations with mothers, based on filmed interactions of the mothers and children and strangers/therapists and children.

Integrative Psychoanalytic Couple Therapy. May 2023

About the 3 Sessions/Discussions

We at the Institute of Somatic Psychotherapy (IOSP) are very excited that Carla Leone, PhD has agreed to run a series of three 2 hour online presentations and discussions of three of her papers on the application of contemporary intersubjective self psychology to couple therapy.

The first will focus on her 2008 paper Couple therapy from the perspective of self psychology and intersubjective systems theory and will provide an overview of how major tenets of self psychology can be applied to work with couples. The second class will apply this approach to work with couples dealing with the aftermath of infidelity, based on Dr. Leone's two published papers on that topic. Finally, the third class will address a common dilemma in couple therapy - whether to ever see partners separately - based on Dr. Leone's most recentpaper, currentlyinpress, titledIndividualSessionsasPartofCoupleTherapy? HowConceptsfromSelfPsychology Can Help Us Decide. In each two hour class Dr. Leone will summarize and elaborate on major points from her papers, facilitate an open discussion of the concepts presented, and respond to clinical case material presented by participants.
